The most generous donor of Bollywood, he has been the real Hawaizaada
flying from one profession to another, yet managing to satisfy the success
sperm efficiently – Ayushmann Khurrana is not only Jack of all trades but
master of all too. Punjabi boy from Chandigarh, very active in theatre group
but however didn’t look at theatre formally to make a career in. Though Ayushmann
formed two theatre groups in Punjab – ‘Aghaaz’ and ‘Manchtantra’. Following the
footsteps of his Idol, none other than the King Khan who studied mass
communication from Jamia Millia Islamia University, Ayushmann too went ahead to study mass communication
for his masters. With the dream of making it big in city of films, Ayushmann
came to Mumbai in 2006 with an appealing portfolio. In his quest for acting, he
met the programming head of Big FM who offered Ayushmann the role of RJ in his
radio station on the merit of his command over Hindi language. Getting trained
from MICA Ahmedabad, Ayushmann was one of the earlier RJ’s who made its way on
the hoardings of Delhi for his breakfast show. To his own disappointment, he
was shifted from Mumbai Radio station to Delhi as he knew the capital better
than populous city of Mumbai. Not being able to resist his temptation of
Bollywood, Ayushmann shifted his base again to Mumbai. With the help of his ex –
boss Tarun Katial, he found work in television serials. One as a side kick in
Balaji Telefilms’ Kayamath’ and then an antagonist in ‘Ek Thi Rajkumari’. With
not being able to satisfy his own creative sperm, Ayushmann stopped his
nautanki in fiction and moved to Non-fiction with being a Roadie to a VJ on MTV for around
4 years. While he was busy enthralling the audience with Ayushmann – Bhav, he
did get lot of offers but nothing that can give him his big break. Patience and
perseverance being the key, he stopped himself from making any Bewakoofiyan and
not pounding onto any silly offers. It was his determination that showed
results when Shoojit Sircar called him not for an audition but to directly make
an offer for Vicky Donor as the acclaimed director found him perfect for the
role post watching his television stint and wanted him to play himself. As they
say – rest is history. With the journey filled with weight of juggling between
career options and finding your own identity, Ayushmann made its mark in
Bollywood and can finally say with relief – Dum Lagaake Haisha !
